Foyer Artists for 2006-2007
Sept-Oct 2006: LeEtta LaFontaine
"Children have a tenacity about being themselves that I love to try to capture with a camera.
"I enjoy photographing children during everyday occurrences to capture their spontaneous interactions with others and with nature. Afterwards, I look further into the photographs to find a captured personality trait that I feel especially belongs to the child I would like to draw or paint.
"To lend more impact to the uniqueness of each child's personality, I chose to use the boldness of charcoal on canvas."

"The work that has emerged this year was started by a few small photographs taken in the forest outside my home in Mission. The light and presence that my camera captured thrilled me and it inspired me to move back into oil painting once again. There is a state of mind I am learning to develop beyond the world of labels by exploring this amazing instrument of my mind. Making paintings helps me in this process for it allows an objective and subjective approach. It seems like I'm painting objects just before they've been perceived or just after, as if under a high powered microscope. The inner landscapes come from emotional brushstrokes carefully refined until I feel they are emitting an energy that speaks to the soul, still showing a trail of where it comes from. I would consider the work a success if you can feel the influence even with your eyes such and smile."
Jan-Feb 2007: Mabel Gardin
"Everywhere one travels in the Fraser Valley, there are places where the bright sun filters through hidden places. Near Hope, BC, these places are found when exploring near the banks of the Fraser River. For some reason the brilliant sunlight glows in and around foliage, tree, sand leaves presenting an atmosphere of vibrant energy and perhaps some evidence of history past.
"The tangle of rocks in "Eternality" must surely have come from debris left by the construction of a railway bridge 100 years ago. Whatever the disturbance was of those days, the nearby creek still cascades over pebbles towards the river and on the site the long mending of the surface of the earth continues in the timeless way of the universe."
Mar-Apr 2007: Bill Adamantidis
"Art excites me, gives me pleasure. Forms, shapes, proportionality, light, and shadow integrated to form an individual, unique, and profound expression from within. That excitement makes me create art, producing pleasure as I choose materials that become a challenge as I explore and experiment with materials that become a challenge as I explore and experiment with their unique texture and their inner structures and external surfaces.
"Everything becomes a project within myself, challenging every aspect of my life. My theology from places such as Greece and Canada are a core theme in my work as traditional scenes."
May/June 2007: Margaret Brezden
"My photography has helped me visualize a small part of my heritage and has enabled me to perpetuate a life style that few of us would have endured. After seeing Jill Enfield's hand-coloured images I know that by using her hand-colouring technique with me heritage images it would give them a look of aged beauty that a regular coloured image would never convey to the viewer.
"My other passion is viewing things from a different perspective, moving in close to my subject in order to show the intricate design and form that we normally don't notice. These images are in complete contrast to my other work because they are often graphic in colour and design."
July/August 2007: Alice Mahon
"Although I find watercolour the most difficult medium, it's also the most exciting. It flows from colour to colour and its unpredictability leads to some delightful or sometimes disastrous surprises. I am forever learning.
"My works are realistic, colourful, and hopefully full of sunshine. Whether in landscapes or florals, I enjoy painting the many moods and beauties of Nature."
