TAILGATE PROGRAM AND PORTER TRUCK

1926 Model T Ford

The Tailgate Program, which involves the Museum's 1926 Porter Truck, is regularly taken to community events throughout Langley in the summer months. This program is a wonderful opportunity to step back in time and discover Langley's history, 1920s style.

The P.Y. Porter truck, a 1926 Model T Ford, was in its time, a delivery vehicle for groceries and general merchandise. For the Museum, it has become a program delivery vehicle with the delivery points being special events parades and, occasionally, schools. Volunteers who deliver the Tailgate modules associated with the Truck are familiar with Langley's history, the Porter family history, the truck itself. The aim is to portray Langley's 1920s lifestyle in an interesting and meaningful way.

The truck is a fitting icon for Langley's 1920s history. There were fifteen million of these vehicles produced and sold worldwide and probably no other symbol could evoke this era so effectively, and for Langley it symbolizes a period of tremendous growth for our community.

The Porter family and business were based in Murrayville, so the Tailgate Program modules not only look at the history of the Township, but also of Murrayville and the Porter Family.

Watch for the Truck at these events. Others may be added to our schedule.
